Lastn4ght, the Sacred Harinenic Beady, acconling to its annual cus-
tom before Christman, performed Thi SfersiaN. It was' the Society's three hundredth concert, in the two-and-twenty years of its active and iiqt,tienkial existence. A new book of the oratorio, Which deserves notice, was issued on this occasion. It contains a preface, and ample notes ap- pended to the words, by Mr. G. Macfarreti, in which that able musician gives many interesting particulars respecting the composition and first Production of the work, mid critical remarks on the principal airs and choruses ; describing the peculiarities of their construction, and pointing Oct their most striking beauties. The Society intimate their readiness to communicate the advantne of this valuable edition to the various choral societies and meetings throughout the kingdom where The Messiah is performed.
